Samba
Samba is a wild child who comes from the forest and lives in the city. He wears green underpants of wild men all the time. He does not like wearing shoes. He can only speak single words but is able to communicate with people by his special facial expression and body language. Therefore, he has a wide circle of acquaintances all over the world ranging from humans, animals to even aliens. Samba has very good appetite and unlimited energy. He only eats, plays and sleeps every day. Thus, he is always filled with vitality and positive energy. He loves nature, adventure and his family. He is righteous but likes playing tricks on his elder brother who looks after him every day. He creates laughter in every moment and is a happy child in everybody’s mind.
KEUNG Chi-kit graduated from a course in Illustration & Design and won the Comics Rising Talent Award of the RIGHTMAN Publishing Limited in 1999 and started to publish numerous comics in COCO! with a light-hearted touch and is one of Hong Kong’s most popular children comic artists; his ‘Samba’ series has been running for more than thirteen years and was published in both Mainland China and Singapore in Simplified Chinese and English respectively. In 2008, he won the ‘Best Children’s Comics Award’ in the 4th Golden Dragon Award Original Comic & Animation Competition’ with the ‘Samba’ series of comics.
In 2015, he was invited by the Hong Kong Arts Centre to participate in the Angouleme International Comics Festival in France as one of the Hong Kong representatives. In the same year, he was commissioned to design one of the comix trams for the Ding !Ding ! Comix Tram sponsored by the Create Hong Kong.
In 2016, Samba was selected as one of the new additions in the Hong Kong Avenue of Comic Stars and the Ani-Com Park.
