動態29_F2.png

The almighty Old Master Q is praised by the readers as the ‘Chinese Superman’.

In the comics, there is an abundance of characters as well as emotions from the quick-witted, shrew and sharp Old Master Q, the kind-hearted Big Dumb, the forward-looking Mr. Chun, the glamourous girlfriend of Old Master Q, Miss Chan, the Old Chiu who is always ready to take on the Old Master Q, and also the pets, friends and even aliens which would make the readers smile from the bottom of their hearts.  The comics also described Hong Kong in its different phases of development, trends and technological advances.  It encompasses the merging of the Chinese culture with the west while safeguarding the traditional Chinese values in the process and hence also becomes the collective memories of Chinese people whether in Hong Kong or overseas, full of long-lasting reminiscences of humour and very worthy of collection and cultural research.

The creator of the Old Master Q is Joseph WONG (Chak), originally named WONG Kar-hei.  In the early 1960s, WONG Kar-hei used his eldest son’s name to create the Old Master Q comics and the rest is history.  In 1964, the first Tankobon booklet version of the comic Old Master Q and Mr. Chun was published by the Ng Hing Kee and immediately became an instant hit because of its humour and brevity in text.  It has always been in the top sales chart of comics capturing the hearts of Chinese all over the world and also enables the continuous publication of various series of the Old Master Q until today.

The architect comic artist WONG Chak has taken up the baton from his father in 1995, endeavouring to  present the Old Master Q as a living icon of Chinese culture, combining contemporary art, design and consumerism and developing in multi and digital platforms with cross sector industries, in order to publicise this significant Chinese cultural heritage all over the world.
